TahitiNut's Island on the Web
"Happiness is not something you get, but something
you do."

"People say
what we're all seeking is a meaning for life.
I don't think that's what we're really seeking.
I think that what we seek is an experience of being alive, so that our
experiences will
have resonances within our innermost being and reality.
So that we actually feel the rapture of being alive."
— Joseph
Campbell
"Our deepest fear is
not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful
beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness,
that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be
brilliant, gorgeous, and
fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small
does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other
people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that
is within us. It is not just in some of us. It is in everyone. And as
we let our own light
shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As
we are liberated
from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others."
— Marianne
Williamson, A Return To Love (HarperCollins, 1993)
(used by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Speech)

The Rules for Being Human
by Cherie Carter-Scott
You will receive a body.
You may like it or hate it, but it will
be yours the entire period of this time around.
You will learn lessons.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal
school called Life. Each day in this school you will have the
opportunity to learn lessons.
You may like the lessons or think them
irrelevant and stupid.
There are no mistakes, only lessons.
Growth is a process of trial and error:
Experimentation.
The 'failed' experiments are as much a part of the process as
the experiment that ultimately 'works'.
A lesson is repeated until learned.
A lesson will be presented to you in
various forms until you have learned it. You can then go on to the next
lesson.
Learning lessons does not end.
There is no part of life that does not
contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.
'There' is no better than 'here'.
When your 'there' has become a 'here',
you will simply obtain another 'there' that will again look better than
'here'.
Others are merely mirrors of you.
You cannot love or hate something about
another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about
yourself.
What you make of your life is up to you.
You have all the tools and resources you
need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
Your answers lie inside you.
The answers to life's questions lie
inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
You will forget all this.
